Job Description
Reporting to the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, the Communications Specialist II performs communications program administration, assists in developing and implementing activities in support of business objectives and strategies, and supports programs/initiatives across internal and external communications, Indigenous engagement, community investment, inclusion, and external affairs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Drafting and distribution of weekly enewsletter to personnel.
- Maintenance and auditing of local office intranet site.
- Creation and maintenance of SharePoint sites to support various office and department programs/initiatives.
- Maintain an informed roster of memberships, sponsorships, and key affiliations.
- Support the rollout and delivery of a new employee network and associated initiatives.
- Maintain a central calendar of events for the office
- Support the delivery of key internal employee-focused initiatives including recognition events, leadership Q&A events, town halls, lunch & learns, stampede breakfasts, cultural workshops and celebrations, as well as other special events as needed.
- Prepare drafts of key communications pieces for review (i.e. internal and external articles, employee spotlights, staffing announcements, value creation presentations, etc). This includes sourcing content, creating first drafts, navigating approvals, intranet publishing, coordinating graphic design, posting and distribution, etc.
- Support the planning and execution of key community outreach activities.
- Creation of Benevity pages in support of community-focused office and team events.
- Assist in developing and implementing communications programs that are measurable and help achieve business goals.
- Help ensure proper and consistent messaging is delivered both internally and externally.
- Engage in regular dialogue with internal stakeholders to maintain an understanding of the current communications environment, challenges and support requirements.
- Continually evaluate and measure the effectiveness of existing communications channels and recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Other duties and support across all functions of the Communications & Public Affairs team as required.
Basic Job Requirements
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or other related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, community partners, vendors, contractors, and visitors
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
- Contribute to and promote the use of Fluor’s knowledge management portals and communities.

- Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and oral presentation skills.

- Working knowledge of technology-based communications (internet/intranet, social media and other vehicles and their use as part of a strategic communication plan).
- Proven efficiency in project and time management – self-starter with ability to manage own workload with minimal supervision.
- Ability to produce consistently high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to remain positive and calm under pressure.

Compressed work schedule: The Fluor Canada offices work a compressed work schedule offering every second Friday off.
The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
