Job Description
Our Project Controls Team is looking for a Cost Specialist for a multi-billion dollar project located in Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta. This position will report to the Project Controls Cost Lead and will be an on-site based position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for Cost monitoring for elements of the project including but not limited to the approved budget establishment, weekly and monthly reporting requirements, change management, cost estimates at completion, cost forecast phasing and variance analysis.
Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Adhere to and support Fluor and the Project’s Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and global standards.
- Provide oversight to ensure compliance with established procedures and cost reporting requirements.
- Responsible for understanding the complete scope of work against the project estimate and approved changes.
- Follow Work Breakdown and Project Coding Structures for control and integrity of the work performed.
- Analyze variances in cost performance against the plan, and communicates the reasons for any variances, in both periodic and total estimate at completion variances.
- Evaluate cost expenditures against project progress.
- Participation and/or facilitation of weekly/monthly meetings.
- Work with project team to identify and raise Project Deviation Notices through Change Management.
- Develop and apply core skills to the job.
- Participate in internal and external audits as required.
- Organize and prioritize a variety of multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Plan and organize own work assignments.
- Interface with the project team.
- Other duties as assigned.
While working on project site locations, workspace conditions can vary which may include, but not limited to, temporary office facilities, various levels of outside weather, and transportation to and from work location.
Basic Job Requirements
- Between 5 – 10 years of industry experience working within the cost function
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include, but are not limited to, management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
- Significant technical knowledge and practical experience with applicable software systems: Microsoft Office (expertise in Microsoft excel), Change Management process, Cost Analysis, SAP.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge.
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
