Job Description
This role entails leading a team to develop the process design of processing facilities or revamps to existing facilities. Specifically, this position is geared towards facilities involving pyrometallurgical processes, fluid bed reactors, entrained flow reactors, and the handling of hazardous materials.
The successful candidate will supervise a small team to develop such designs, with specific scope considerations that would be designed by the team, or where the team would oversee a third-party design effort:a
- Dry solids handling of feedstock materials
- Fluidized bed reactor design development, including assessing reaction kinetics and hydrodynamics
- Entrained-flow reactor design development, including assessing reaction kinetics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
- Product recovery via desublimation and subsequent melting
- Process offgas handing and neutralization
- Emergency relief system design for non-flammable hazardous materials
- Knowledge of hazardous material safety requirements and guidelines
- Review and feedback to laboratory and pilot plant reports and advising where additional information is necessary for design purposes
- Scope definition and oversight of third-party CFD/Multiphysics modelling of key system components, notably for the entrained-flow reactor
General Duties and Responsibilities
- May lead a process team on a project overseeing design of several process areas or units to develop drawings and specifications for study, feasibility, Front End Engineering Development (FEED), or Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction (EPFC) for these units/systems
- Develop Process Technology Quality and Activity Plans for moderate to intermediate size projects
- Propose/develop cost effective work processes (project specific) to ensure Fluor’s success
- Provide execution support in the implementation of the Project Execution Plan
- Perform inspections and audits of activities to determine conformance to specified requirements
- Execute Fluor’s scope of work according to contract requirements
- Prepare design margin tables to support Value Improvement Practice
- Interface with client representatives: project, planning, process and instrument engineers, operations and maintenance to align contract requirements and expectations
- Interface with Fluor discipline engineers to develop interdisciplinary drawings and specifications
- Provide support to Fluor project team members to enhance Fluor’s understanding of client technology and business objectives
- Execute studies as required and/or needed to provide cost effective facilities
- Initiate and maintain contacts and liaison with engineering and management as well as individuals, organizations, and companies with special knowledge, expertise, and services pertaining to Process Technology
- Develop methods, techniques, and procedures for the implementation and trouble shooting of special Process Technology work processes
- Review project schedules and assist in development of work plans to support project milestones
- Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and global standards
- Adhere to and support Fluor's Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies
- May need to travel to attend to business related matters
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Job Requirements
• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and fourteen (14) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Registered as a Professional Engineer in at least one Canadian province
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
