Job Description
The facilities integration architect leads the development of feasibility studies, conceptual designs and early basic design packages following an established front end design process Fluor refers to as EPIC. The successful candidate for this role will be provided with intensive training in the development of projects using this established process.
This is a client-facing technical role and reports to the head of the facilities integration team, located in Greenville South Carolina or the senior architect in the United Kingdom.
The PDS is a global team of subject matter experts, process architects, process, and equipment engineers within the ATLS Division of Fluor. Our team serves the life sciences, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, data center and battery manufacturing industries. It delivers as many as fifty projects per year.
The essential job duties for this position are as follows:
- Facilitate project kick-off and goal setting sessions for new clients or projects.
- Document client team objectives gathered during goal-setting workshop(s).
- Disseminate the objectives to the team within the PDS, assigned to the project.
- Work with the team to develop the facility design outward from the from the process.
- Lead the development of facility model using Sketchup, Revit or other tools.
- Ensure that the equipment or manufacturing process and flow inform the layout.
- Iteratively develop the facility and site plan in preparation for subsequent client workshops to obtain feedback to advance the overall design.
- Develop material, personnel, equipment, and waste flow diagrams as appropriate.
- Coordinate the development of HVAC zoning, classification, and pressurization diagrams.
- Share the preliminary architectural design with structural, civil and other disciplines to ensure the design is cohesive and ready for estimating.
- Work with the visualization team to prepare exterior renderings and fly-around video in alignment with the project requirements.
- Lead the preparation of the turnover package and work with the project manager to ensure the proposed deliverables are complete and meet our quality standards.
- Provide clients with technical advice. Build client relationships through credibility.
- Participate in sales pursuits as needed.
- Coordinate the design transition between feasibility and conceptual design and from conceptual design to basic design.
Basic Job Requirements
To be Considered Candidates:
Must be authorized to work in the country where the position is located.
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and fifteen years of work-related experience is minimum requirement.
- Must be a registered or chartered architect; NCARB or ARB.
- The ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrate an elevated level of technical knowledge in one or more of the manufacturing sectors served by ATLS.
- Analytical approach to problem solving and identifying potential solutions.
- Technical and business writing skills.
- Basic understanding of design, engineering, procurement, material management, construction, commissioning, start up, turn over work processes, sequencing, and interfaces.
- Ability to resolve problems and to be comfortable in complex projects or business environments.
- Ability to travel periodically to other Fluor offices or client locations in support of projects or routine business needs.
Other Job Requirements
- Participate in Fluor University courses for continued learning experiences.
- Utilize the Fluor Knowledge Management processes to capture, support and leverage relevant knowledge to enhance project execution, if appropriate.
- Actively participate and represent Fluor at industry trade shows, annual meetings, or other professional gatherings for the industries we serve.
- Be capable of leveraging established relationships with clients because of successful delivery of past projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading complex, new facility feasibility and conceptual design projects for one or more of the segments the PDS supports.
- Construction experience and understanding of site organization and construction safety.
- Experience collaborating with permitting authorities.
