Job Description
The Principal Specialist role is a technical expert within the designated Information Technology (IT) area of responsibility. This role develops and applies advanced concepts and approaches to unusual or exceptionally complex IT problems. This position will strategically design, deploy, and monitor enterprise solutions and architectures while ensuring their efficiency and availability. This individual obtains organizational commitment for all IT solutions and plans. The Principal Specialist applies proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and, resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT solutions.
• Provide direction within the designated area of expertise including conceptualizing, organizing, planning, anticipating business needs, and executing large complex business units or enterprise level IT technical solutions
• Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of existing technologies; design and facilitate strategies for improving or replacing IT solutions
• Analyze complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommends technical solutions
• Partner with IT leadership and team members to identify solutions that meet business goals, help develop solutions, and support implementation
• Participate with cross-functional team members in issue identification, process impacts, and solution development discussions to optimize end-to-end solutions
• Apply a comprehensive knowledge of IT best practices, in situations involving a high degree of complexity and scope at all levels of the business

Basic Job Requirements
• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and thirteen (13) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to seventeen (17) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Other Job Requirements
• Lead the management of enterprise SQL Server and Oracle database environments as a member of the Enterprise DBA team
• Oversee database and operating system version upgrades, resource and capacity planning, consolidation initiatives, data center migrations, and platform expansion.
• Support application lifecycle planning by partnering with engineering, infrastructure, and service delivery teams to align database platforms with business roadmaps.
• Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and database issues.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for enterprise IT solutions spanning on‑premises, hybrid, and cloud platforms.
• Collaborate with Azure architects and infrastructure leaders to design, implement, and support cloud‑based applications, including complex integrations between on‑premises and Azure SQL Server Managed Instance (MI) environments.
• Design and implement secure data access architectures, including data gateways, to support analytics platforms such as Power BI while ensuring governance, security, and cost controls.
• Evaluate existing technologies and architectures; develop strategies to modernize, consolidate, replace, or retire systems based on business value, risk, and lifecycle considerations.
• Act as a recognized subject matter expert for SQL Server and Oracle technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Accredited degree or global equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or related discipline
• Advanced degree (Master’s or global equivalent) is desirable
• Thirteen (13) years of Information Technology (IT ) related experience in one or more of the following areas: data communications engineering, data and/or voice communications, hardware or software analysis, network administration, or management or data and/or voice communications equipment installation and maintenance
• May require Certified Network Engineer (CNE or CNE/NT) or Certified Network Administrator (CNA) credentials or other applicable certifications
• Ability to communicate and persuade all management levels and thrive in a cross-functional environment
• Effectively adapts to rapidly changing technology and applies it to business needs
• Demonstrated strong technical and non-technical communication and presentation skills in both oral and written formats
• Strong team-oriented interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated strong analytical and conceptual skills, and actively promotes knowledge sharing

Market Rate Statement: The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.

Salary Range: $139,000.00 - $258,000.00
