Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide technical responsibility for organizing, executing and coordinating complex Process Technology project assignments and may oversee a team of several engineers. Design experience in one or more of the following commodities:  gold or copper is essential, with PGM & chrome, or base metals processing being beneficial.

  • Typical duties & responsibilities:
    • May lead a team of several engineers to develop drawings and specifications for study, feasibility, detail design and/or execution
    • Execute Fluor’s scope of work according to contract requirements.  Execute studies as required and/or needed to provide cost effective facilities
    • Interface with client representatives: project, planning, process and instrument engineers, operations and maintenance to align contract requirements and expectations
    • Provide support to Fluor project team members to enhance Fluor’s understanding of client technology and business
    • Prepare and review process design specifications containing all components necessary to satisfy contract requirements: interpretation of test work reports to generate and confirm the process design criteria (PDC), process description, process design basis, configuration and other studies, mass balance, process flow diagrams (PFD), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), process equipment specifications, process equipment lists, process line~, valve~ and instrument lists, control philosophy and functional specification
    • Participate in plot plan review and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews regarding plant safety/operability/Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assignment
    • Participate in bid evaluations for equipment and check vendor data for equipment when received
    • Analyse and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
    • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
    • Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from management staff
    • Train team members in technology specific skills
    • Develop schedule logic and effort-hours budgets
    • Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and global standards
    • Adhere to and support Fluor's Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies
    • May need to travel to attend to business related matters

Basic Job Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree (process engineering, metallurgical engineering, or chemical engineering degree) from a recognized tertiary institute
  • A minimum of 14 years' experience in design of concentrators and mineral processing plants
  • Commissioning and/or operational experience in addition to design experience will be beneficial
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job

Other Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering degree
  • ECSA professional engineer registration will be beneficial
