Job Description

Assistant Fire Chief of a Fire Services team operationally supports services in Fire Operations. Leads Aircraft Rescue and Structural (ARFF and Structural) Firefighting Services to minimize loss of life and property in the event of fire. Controls and extinguishes fires. Operates pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweeps nozzles and other similar equipment. Uses a variety of special protective gear in situations where poisonous gases, highly flammable combustible liquids, radioactive materials, and hazardous biological products are involved. Manages/Supports the ARFF and Structural Firefighting Services function within assigned area of responsibility. on an international project. Responsibilities include providing leadership of ARFF and Structural Firefighting Services through planning, organizing, and directing the operation of all aspects of fire protection programs. Identify and recommend future Aircraft Rescue and Structural Firefighting (ARFF and Structural) planning and execution requirements. Manage and account for all assigned materials and equipment. Manage inventories throughout operations activities. Must anticipate and plan for shortfalls in materials, equipment, and ARFF and Structural capabilities. Ensure all ARFF and Structural Fire Services members meet training and certification requirements outlined in DoDM 6055.06. Maintain proficiencies, licenses, and certifications in accordance with applicable regulations and Host Nation guidance, NFPA, and ARFF regulations. Conduct daily inspections of personal protective gear for serviceability and accountability. Prepare and conduct training for military personnel or subcontractors on ARFF operations and fire protection as needed. Ensure the safety of all firefighters by requiring proper procedures are followed. Responsible for planning and conducting emergency response exercises. Other duties as assigned.

Basic Job Requirements

High school diploma / GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and Minimum of 5 years experience as a Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Station Captain and/or Fire Crew Lead (Crew Chief).

May be assigned to a day shift or night shift. Environments can be from conventional indoor office workspace to project worksites with harsh, working and living conditions. To ensure compliance with safety, health and security requirements in the contract, employee will possess the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at the intermediate level as necessary to perform assigned job functions. Position requires the basic skills and physical ability necessary to perform assigned job functions. All DoD military and civilian firefighters and employees of DoD contractors must be certified at the level for which they seek employment. Must have in-depth knowledge of DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program (DoDM 6055.06) or industrial/ municipal equivalent. Must have experience with the Army Emergency Management Program (DA PAM 525-27). To ensure compliance with safety, health and security requirements in the contract, employee will possess the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language at the intermediate level as necessary to perform assigned job functions. IFSAC OR PRO BOARD CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED: Must possess a standard issue civilian driver’s license. Minimum Certification Requirements: Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Material Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Fire Inspector III (Preferred), Fire Instructor III (Preferred), Telecommunicator I and II (Preferred), Marine Firefighter – Only required at FandES departments without an aircraft firefighting mission, Wildland Firefighting – Only required at FandES departments with a wildland firefighting mission, as defined by the DoD.
