We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to join us as Subject Matter Expert (SME), overseeing multiple projects.

This role is ideal for a senior mechanical engineer who enjoys technical depth and broader influence,  shaping standards, developing people, and providing consistent mechanical leadership across a diverse project portfolio.

What does that look like?

As Lead Mechanical Engineer – SME , you will provide technical authority, engineering governance and people leadership across a portfolio of projects at various stages of delivery.

You will balance hands on project involvement with strategic oversight, ensuring technical excellence, consistency, and capability development across the mechanical discipline.

You will:

• Act as the Mechanical Engineering SME, providing high level technical guidance, oversight and assurance across multiple projects
• Lead mechanical engineering delivery across a portfolio of concurrent projects, from studies through to detailed design and execution
• Provide mentoring, coaching and technical leadership to Mechanical Engineers and Designers, supporting capability uplift and succession
• Set and maintain mechanical engineering standards, work practices and governance across the portfolio
• Support and guide project teams on:
• Equipment selection, specifications and data sheets
• Design calculations, layouts and constructability
• Vendor technical evaluations and adjudications
• Interface collaboratively with:
• Other engineering disciplines
• Project Engineering and Project Management
• Construction, Operations and external stakeholders
• Contribute to resourcing strategies, workload planning and technical risk management
• Play a visible leadership role in reviews, workshops and design assurance activities

About YOU

You are a senior mechanical engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, developing people and influencing outcomes beyond a single project.

You are equally comfortable:

• Rolling up your sleeves on challenging technical issues
• Stepping back to guide teams, set direction and mentor others
• Building trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels

You will bring:

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent
• Significant experience in a design / consultancy / EPCM environment
• Proven leadership experience across multiple projects or portfolios
• Strong technical background in heavy industry (resources, minerals processing, energy, infrastructure or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide and develop engineers and designers
• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to influence and advise
• A collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset
