Job Description

Leads a team of Fluor Utility Plant Operators in the operation of the Central Utility Plant at the IRG Rochester campus. Oversees equipment maintenance and troubleshooting in the Central Utility Plant to include steam systems, chilled water systems, Boilers, Chillers, Air Compressors, and other equipment used in the Utility plant.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Safety

 

  • Ensure the appropriate safety practices are followed.
  • Ensure all certification and training is in accordance with the site and State of Minnesota requirements.
  • Implement required safety standards.
  • Assists in the Training of new employees.
  • Sets up and participates in all State, Insurance and required Inspections.
  •  

General Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to): 

 

  • Oversees the repair and maintenance of equipment such as Boilers, Chillers, Air compressors, Motors and steam and chilled water systems, using hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments.
  • Assist and guide Operators as needed.
  • Requires the ability to observe mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.
  • Oversees Operators in dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
  • May be required to oversee electrical repairs after a licensed electrician has made sure the power has been properly isolated.
  • Must have knowledge of Variable Speed Drives, setup, maintenance, and trouble shooting.
  • Oversees general housekeeping to keep the areas worked in clean and neat.
  • Direct and assist Operators in cleaning of Plate frame heat exchangers as required.
  • Direct and assist Operators in cleaning of chiller condenser / evaporator tubes as required.
  • Manage and assign work for completion by requested dates.
  • Must have availability to work after hours (early morning or late night), weekends and holidays as required.
  • Write work orders in the CUP.
  • Develop Scopes of work for CUP Projects
  • Ensures the CUP runs as efficiently as possible.
  • Ability to communicate Verbally and in writing.
  • Must have strong Leadership skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED). Prefer at least eight years’ experience with utility plant maintenance.
  • General knowledge and understanding of controls systems including BAS (building automation systems) and PLC (programmable logic controllers), pneumatic controls and the following types of controlled equipment: motors, pumps, valves, air handling units, variable frequency drives, heat exchangers, pressure sensors, flow meters, temperature probes, chillers, boilers, steam systems and air compressors. 
  • Knowledge and practical experience with calibration of field instrumentation (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, and level). Knowledge and practical experience with electronics (e.g., testing, troubleshooting, and calibrating). Controls systems programming experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Products. Creating and updating files in the following. (Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of standard maintenance practices.

Other Job Requirements

  • Required MN Chief B license or above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: 2-year Building Utility Mechanic (BUM) degree preferred plus 6 years of experience, or 8 years of experience in a related field of work.
  • Universal Refrigerant License

Market Rate Statement: The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.

Salary Range: $59,000.00 - $111,000.00
