Job Description
Role Overview
The BI & Semantic Engineer will design and deliver high‑quality semantic data models and consumption layers that enable analytics, conversational AI, and data‑as‑a‑service capabilities across Fluor’s global projects and enterprise functions. This role focuses on preparing optimized data models for text‑to‑SQL and AI‑driven insights, implementing secure and scalable semantic layers, and building domain‑focused dashboards using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. The position partners closely with data engineering, AI, and business stakeholders to ensure trusted, governed, and performant data products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain semantic data models optimized for BI, self‑service analytics, and conversational AI (Text‑to‑SQL, copilots).
- Build and manage the data product consumption layer, ensuring consistency, usability, and performance across analytics and AI use cases.
- Develop Power BI (Microsoft Fabric) datasets, semantic models, and domain dashboards aligned to business KPIs.
- Implement row‑level security (RLS) and object‑level security to ensure compliant and role‑based data access.
- Author and optimize DAX and Tabular models for performance, scalability, and reusability.
- Enable Data‑as‑a‑Service patterns by exposing governed datasets and metrics through API Management.
- Collaborate with data engineers to align semantic models with curated data layers and enterprise standards.
- Partner with AI and analytics teams to validate data readiness for natural‑language querying and AI reasoning.
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and performance tuning to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, and usage guidance for consumers.
- Support production issues, enhancements, and continuous improvement of BI and semantic assets.
Basic Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems Engineering
- 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in BI, semantic modeling, or analytics engineering roles.
- Strong experience with Power BI, including datasets, semantic models, and dashboard development.
- Solid expertise in DAX, Tabular modeling, and dimensional data modeling concepts.
- Experience implementing row‑level security (RLS) and governed access models.
- Practical exposure to conversational analytics, text‑to‑SQL, or AI‑enabled BI use cases.
- Proficiency in SQL and understanding of modern data platform architectures.
- Experience collaborating with cross‑functional technical and business teams.
- Microsoft certifications (Power BI, Fabric, databricks or Data Engineer) are a plus.
Other Job Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse integration).
- Exposure to API Management and enabling data products or data‑as‑a‑service.
- Familiarity with enterprise data governance, metadata management, and data quality practices.
- Experience in large, global organizations or project‑based (EPC) environments.
- Understanding of analytics use cases across engineering, procurement, construction, or corporate domains.
