Job Description
The role of the Principal Information Technology (IT) Technician is to support and maintain in-house computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required. This role may act as the lead technician and oversee other technicians and their work processes.
• Provide a single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance
• Troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via e-mail) in a timely and accurate manner
• Apply knowledge within technical manuals, procedural documentation, and original equipment manufacturer guides
• Install, configure, diagnose, repair, and upgrade all personal computer hardware and equipment, according to department policies, while ensuring its optimal performance
• Maintain, distribute, install, configure, repair, and upgrade various electronic products, according to department policies, while ensuring their optimal performance
• Liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors to identify and deliver required hardware and/or software service levels according to company policies
• Provide support in the development, maintenance and/or upgrades of business solutions
• Other duties as assigned
Basic Job Requirements
• A combination of education and directly related experience equal to five (5) years; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Other Job Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
• Education in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline
• Five (5) years of related experience in group(s) responsible for technical services for hardware/software engineering and production support
• Some project management skills and experience with remote locations
• Familiarity with multi-platform environments
• Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills
• Able to establish user trust and confidence in the group’s knowledge of and concern for users’ business needs
• Strong team-oriented interpersonal skills
