Job Description

The Construction Manager is responsible for leading all construction-related activities during the Feasibility Study phase and developing the overall construction execution strategy for the project. The role ensures that construction requirements, execution methodologies, labor strategies, logistics plans, temporary facilities, contracting approaches, risk mitigation measures, operational interfaces, and construction support requirements are fully integrated into engineering development, project planning, estimating, and scheduling activities.

The Construction Manager acts as the primary owner of the Construction Execution Plan and serves as the focal point for ensuring that the proposed project can be constructed safely, efficiently, economically, and within the planned schedule. The role provides construction leadership to the integrated project team and supports investment decisions through development of a realistic and executable project delivery strategy.

  • Primary Role

Lead construction execution planning and constructability activities for the project, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective project delivery. Provide construction expertise to project teams, identify and mitigate execution risks, and develop strategies that support successful delivery from engineering through construction and turnover.

Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain the Construction Execution Plan, execution strategy, Path of Construction, sequencing, work packaging, and modularization approaches.
    • Lead constructability reviews and provide input on engineering deliverables, access requirements, installation methods, lifting strategies, and execution risks.
    • Support schedule development, manpower planning, productivity assessments, and schedule risk evaluations.
    • Provide construction input to project estimates, temporary facilities planning, procurement strategies, and contingency development.
    • Define requirements for construction infrastructure, logistics, heavy haul transportation, laydown areas, warehouses, and camp facilities.
    • Coordinate construction planning and interfaces across major project and infrastructure workstreams.
    • Participate in the Construction Schedule Development 
    • Provide Cost and Estimate Support  
    • Provide Construction Temporary Facilities support  

Leadership Responsibilities

    • Lead construction planning activities and strategy workshops.
    • Interface with client and project leadership teams.
    • Mentor construction personnel and promote construction-focused decision making.
    • Foster collaboration between engineering and construction organizations.

Required Competencies

Strategic thinking, construction planning, constructability, risk management, commercial awareness, stakeholder engagement, executive communication, team leadership, influencing skills, and cross-functional collaboration.

Basic Job Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and twenty (20) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twenty-four (24) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements   
  • 10+ years in Construction Manager, Deputy Construction Manager, Area Manager, or Project Construction Director roles. 
  • Previous involvement in at least one large-scale feasibility study and one major mine development project. 

Other Job Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of mining and industrial construction, constructability practices, construction safety, work packaging, execution planning, and digital construction tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership through effective communication, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration, risk-based decision making, conflict resolution, influencing skills, and team development.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • High-altitude project execution. 

  • Remote workforce and camp operations. 

  • Large EPCM delivery models. 

  • Projects exceeding US$1 billion total installed cost. 

Languages 

  • English (required) 

  • Spanish (an asset for Chile-based studies and stakeholder engagement)

Compressed work schedule: The Fluor Canada offices work a compressed work schedule offering every second Friday off. 

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $163,500.00 - $302,500.00

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
